I was chatting with some LinuxChix, and they turned me on to SciTE, a nifty text editor that does in Linux what EditPadPro (or Lite or Classic) does in Windows.
SciTE is lightweight (only 388kB for the Debian apt-get download), yet still has customizable syntax highlighting for a lot of common languages. While it's not a word processor (and doesn't pretend to be), it does do word wrap when you set that option on.
Apparently SciTE is written to be cross platform for both Win32 and Linux. It is open source, and was originally developed as part of the Scintilla Project.
