Anti-Blog News Blog

I'm talking about The Register, of course. In this article they come off with some pithy comments about the nature of the high profile blogosphere, and more so about the alleged "community" sites that keep coming back like a bad batch of beans.

Yet their format could easily be comsidered a precursor of current blogs: newest articles at the top, a mix of news with a heavy dose of satire and opinion, and adverts in the stinking sidebars. The articles themselves have embedded links and all of that. The only thing that's missing is the ability to comment on the articles, and even so they'd just end up like SlashDot if they did that.

So when is it news, opinion, or satire, and when is it "just" a blog? Does having a paid editor and advertising staff make the difference?
